Sunshine of my life - A little slice of Summer

Pineapples are a little bit of sunshine in winter! Not only is it delicious, juicy and sweet, it is also a healthy benefit power house.  Although it is known for its sweetness, which some people might be scared of, it is well worthy of the status as a regular daily food.  Here is why:

100 g pineapple provides just about 50 calories equivalent to that of apples.

One cup of fresh pineapple chunks provides 131% of your vitamin C needs for the day, 2% of vitamin A needs, 2% of calcium and 2% of iron.

Fresh pineapple is the only known source of an enzyme called bromelain, which has been used in studies to determine it's effectiveness in alleviating joint pain, arthritis, reduce inflammation, and inhibit tumor growth.

A higher intake of all fruits (3 or more servings per day) has also been linked to a decreased risk of and progression of age-related macular degeneration.

Pineapple is also a rich source in Vitamin A and Beta-Carotene, which helps your immune system, eyesight and protects from free radicals.

Pineapple is an excellent source the trace mineral manganese, which is an essential cofactor in a number of enzymes important in energy production and antioxidant defenses.  Rich amount of manganese present in pineapples helps in strengthening bones and connective tissues.

It's still winter, but grab a pineapple to pretend its sunny outside!
