There are some interesting bits and pieces that big food companies put into our food that may be approved by a scientific laboratory, but if you really knew what it was, you may think otherwise. Here are a few of them that you may have in the household:
Jelly beans: they are a delicious sweet treat and a virtual staple at kids parties but the dyes in artificially coloured jelly beans are mostly derived from petroleum material. The orange and purple dyes could be linked with slower brain function and kids behavioural issues
Chewing gum: I get asked a lot if it is ok to have sugar-free gum during a cleanse, but chewing gum may contain lanolin which is a great way to soften your hands, as well as softening your chewing gum. Lanolin is an oily secretion found in sheep’s wool, which is basically made from sheep sweat, and those sheep have likely been dipped in pesticides.
White soft bread: the nice and soft stuff contains a softening agent called L-Cysteine which can be made from things like human hair or more commonly derived from chicken or duck feathers.
Shredded Cheese: not the stuff you buy in a block and grate yourself, the pre-packaged pre-shredded bag you can buy from the chese section of the supermarket. Ever wondered why when you do it at home it always clumps together but the stuff from the store doesn’t? It contains cellulose, which is derived from sawdust. Just buy a block and grate it yourself.
